Architectural Highlights A Cornucopia of Styles

Our neigbourhood, Hietzing, is full of architectural delights from many periods. It is a perfect starting point for architectural walking tours of Vienna. Biedermeier, Spaethistoristisch, Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, Art Deco and Bauhaus are just some of the styles represented.

The Coachmans Residence, "A Fabulous Residence on a Famous Street in an Exclusive Neighborhood!" is now a luxury, fully serviced, vacation home. Itself an architectural jewel, it is surrounded by many, many more.

Our immediate neighbours include the extraordinary Villa Primavesi, one of the architect Josef Hoffmann's most famous buildings. From our gate you can also see a sample of Bauhaus architecture, row houses designed by Siegfried Drach and several Biedermeier houses. Around the corner on Wattmanngasse is the famous Das Schokolade, or the Chocolate House, designed by Otto Wagner's student Ernst LichtBlau.

The Coachman's Residence, the Carriage House of the former Villa Taussig, is in the Späthistoristisch Style. The Hermesvilla, also known as Sissi's Palace, is in the same style and is close by. It is well worth a visit.

Carl Koenig, was the architect of the Villa Taussig, including The Coachman's Residence and the Porters Lodge opposite. Built in 1893 the villa was demolished in 1931. Koenig's best known surviving building is the 'Haus der Industrie' on Schwarzenberg Platz.
